Roses and Revolutionists: The Story of the Clousden Hill Free Communist and Co-operative Colony 1894-1902

Manufacturer: Five Leaves Publications

Product Information

Clousden Hill was a famous, late-Victorian utopian back-to-the-land experimental community on Tyneside. The 'colony' was anarchist-inspired and sought to combine communal living with scientific horticulture, demonstrating a new way of organising society. The community was international, drawing members from exiles - especially political exiles - from all over Europe. This was a time when the local labour movement was exploring what a socialist future could look like.

Author Nigel Todd volunteers for the WEA in the North East.  Published by Five Leaves, 2015.
